JANUARY 2009
January 1st - Polar Bear Ride - Unfortunately, this year's Polar Bear Ride was cancelled for safety reasons. Since it had snowed the day before, there was an excess amount of salt on the roads.
January 31st - Snow Tubing at Seven Springs - We all had such a fun time! This needs to be a yearly event. As Paul said, nobody broke any body parts! Definitely a memorable event!

FEBRUARY 2009
February 1st - Super Bowl Party -
WOW!!! What a game!!!! Six-burgh baby!!! It was great cheering on the Steelers with good friends and good food....too much food. haha
February 22nd - WPAC Stew Cook Off -
Congratulations to Mitch's wife, Mary Lou, for winning the trophy for 1st Place Stew!

MARCH 2009
March 1st - Winter Meeting -
Excellent turn out! Thanks to everyone who attended!
March 21st ot 22nd - First Planned Ride of the Season - Myersdale Maple Festival - Chilly day but everyone who went had a great time!

APRIL 2009
Starting in April - Sonic Sundays -
As soon as Sonic opens, (By Walmart on Rt 30 in Greensburg) we'll start this new tradition. End the week by socializing with members. Meet after a Sunday ride or come after spending the day working around the house. Meet on or around 6:30 PM. Sonic is legendary for those who like to Cruz on in. Congratulations to ReB who was their very first customer!!
April 5th - First Sonic Sunday Ride- Ten motorcycles and 13 people turned out for this event. The ride was slow and easy on back roads and ended with good food at the newly opened Sonic where 4 more members met us. Great event!
April 19th - 13th Annual Blessing of the Bikes - 12:30 PM - Murrysville Alliance Church, 4130 Old William Penn Highway, Murrysville. Also, if interested, all bikers are invited to morning service at 10:45 AM.
April 24th and 25th- Z&M Cycle Spring Open House and Carnival - Friday from 5 PM to 8 PM there will be free carnival rides and Saturday from 9:30 AM to 5 PM there will be free food, a sidewalk sale, and free carnival rides.
April 26th - 9th Annual Biker's Blessing/Johnstown Incline - What a beautiful day! Temps in the high 80's with the sun shinning all day. Ross led us on some twisties to Johnstown where we rode down the incline with the bikes and then headed back to Sonic for dinner. Great day.

MAY 2009
May 3rd as a starting date- Sunday Easy Rider Rides -
Every Sunday, starting May 3rd, weather permitting, these Sunday rides will consist of any point, as long as it is a two-laner. These rides are for the "sight-see'r" in us and not so much being in a hurry to get anywhere. Frequent stops for areas of interest and "bum-rest & potty breaks". We'll meet every Sunday that doesn't conflict with a planned ride. Meeting place will be announced via our Google e-mail with a brief ride description. Less experienced riders are encouraged to ride these rides as we will ride a nice, easy pace. No pressure at all BUT BE THERE! For more information, contact Reb at e-mail.
May 17th - National Pike Steam Show Run - Cancelled due to weather conditions.
May 23rd thru 25th- Rolling Thunder - Six bikes and nine riders made it to DC, honored our Veterans, MIA's and POWs, and got back home safely!
May 30th - Sherman's Picnic and Ohio Ride - Rides don't get any better than this! Everything went perfectly! The weather couldn't have been nicer, the food couldn't have tasted better, and the friendships couldn't have been more fun. 24 bikes rode safely and no body got lost from the group. Excellent day!

June 2009
June 7th - Long Distance Ride - This trip has been cancelled.
June 15th - Annual Ride to Work Day - This day is to increase goverment and public awareness about the benefits of riding motorcycles and scooters. For complete details, please click here.
June 19th thru 21st - Thunder in Paradise Bike Show, Rib, and Music Fest - Ride to Loudonville, Ohio, and enjoy a weekend in a great little town that still retains its small town charm. Enjoy the festival as well as some really great motorcycle roads. You can camp or you can stay in a motel. Leaving Pittsburgh Airport at 3 PM on the 19th and get to Loudonville around 6 PM. Motels are in short supply there so let John know ASAP if you want to go so he can make the arrangements. For more information, contact John M at e-mail.
June 25th thru 28th - Thunder in the Valley - Another successful year for Thunder in the Valley. Several members attended all throughout the weekend. The best story is how Mitch and Bill got invited to a free meal......at no cost!
June 26th - Cast of Beatlemania - Several members attended this concert and all had a great time. We sang and danced to the sounds of the Beatles!

July 2009
July 12th - Syria Motor Corps Poker Run - Proceeds from this event are used for Motor Corps functions. Last year, $9,000 was raised for the Erie Shriners Hospital for Children. For complete details, click here.
July 16th - 19th- Roar On The Shore

July 18th - Covered Bridge Ride by Volusariders - Ride to Jefferson, Ohio and thru north east Ohio to see the sights of covered bridges. Meet at 9 AM at Hardee's, 65 S Chestnut Street in Jefferson, OH. We'll ride 55 miles seeing seven covered bridges and make it back to Hardee's for lunch. After lunch, we'll ride 67 miles to see another eight covered bridges, stop at "Walk on the Fishes" and then finish in Andover, Ohio for dinner or to start the ride home. July 19th - Thunder Run - At 9 AM on Sunday, July 19, hundreds of motorcycles will depart simultaneously from Z&M Cycle in Greensburg and a second location to be determined. The two groups will join-up on Coxcomb Hill Road in New Kensington and ride together into Pittsburgh. They will turn at the Point and head through Oakland and onto the race track at Schenley Park. All riders take a parade lap on the track and settle in for a picnic above the serpentine turn on East Circuit Road. There will be a hog roast with music provided by Jimmy's Jukebox. The cost is $25 per bike and $15 per passenger which includes lunch, drinks, and entertainment. Keep your eyes open to our Google e-mails to see who is going on this ride.
July 25th - Howard's Annual Picnic - Just a time to get together with all our friends to enjoy and celebrate life! Bring your favorite covered dish - we supply meat and drinks. (Soda only - BYOB if you want.) We also supply the entertainment. This year, 706 UNION is back after their "World Tour". If you have never heard them, they play the "old time country Honky Tonk Drinkin" music. Hank Williams Sr. stuff and some of their own. August 2009
August 8th- Hickory Woods Dinner Ride -
Leave around 2 PM and ride to Butler for dinner at our favorite restaurant, Hickory Woods. Maybe stop and waste a little time someplace before reaching Hickory Woods. More details to follow once finalized. Approximate mileage for this ride is about 110 miles. For more information, contact Walt at e-mail.
August 15th - 3rd Annual Jake Magalich Memorial Ride - This ride is to honor Jake Magalich, one of our members, who passed away in a motorcycle accident two years ago. This ride is planned by his family and friends. All riders interested in a day of riding, food, friends, and laughter are welcome. A barbeque will be waiting for all riders at the Heritage Pavilion in Crooked Creek Park. Meet at the intersection of Rte 819 and Rte 22, kick stands up at 9:30 AM. Registration fee is $15/single rider and $25/double riders. This covers the cost of t-shirts, food, and pavilion rental. Everyone must register and money paid to Shelley Magalich, no later than July 24th. To see the flyer with all the details, click here. September 12th - Windber Rumbles Motorcycle Rally - Click here for Windber Rumbles web site for more information. Check back here later to get details if and when we are going as a group.
September 19th - All Group Ride and Picnic at the Steel Rim Tavern - Details will be posted at a later date. Right now, we are posting the date so members do not make other plans for the same day. Entire group participation for this is the goal!

October 2009
October 11th with a rain date of October 18th- Denny's Beer Barrel Run -
Approximate mileage is 250 to 300 -Meet at Sheetz in New Alexandria at 8:30 am, kick stands up at 9 am. Ride to Clymer where we'll take a rest stop and join another group. In 2008, we had a total of 36 bikes! Enjoy a beautiful fall ride on Rt 286 to Clearfield to Denny's Beer Barrel Pub. It's advisable to read the menu on line ahead of time because the menu is 18 pages long! Eat from 11:30 am to 2 pm and the ride home will depend on the weather and time, but it will be different and very scenic. This run is turning into a great annual "must do" event for the entire group! For further information, contact Ross at e-mail. See ya then!
